Brokeback Mountain

I watched this beautiful movie last night. I had wanted to see it ever since the international film festival in town showed it last fall...but I never got around to see it. But yesterday I held a knife to the throat of my sister and forced her to come with me. -Well not exactly, but she did come with me. If you havent seen it, you've probably heard a lot about it. Unfortunately a tiny short sex sequence between Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal has gotten most of the attention from the media, and the wonderful story has sort of disappeared in the shadows.

If you've been hiding under a rock the past 6 months, I can give you a short synopsis (stolen from imdb.com):

"An epic love story set against the sweeping vistas of Wyoming and Texas, Brokeback Mountain tells the story of two young men - a ranch-hand and a rodeo cowboy - who meet in the summer of 1963, and unexpectedly forge a lifelong connection, one whose complications, joys and tragedies provide a testament to the endurance and power of love."

I believe that most of all, this movie is about prejudice, and about being forced by society to live a life different than the one you wish for and could have had...Sometimes judging others is way too easy.

I hope and think that our society has become less prejudice since 1963...but I fear we still have a long way to go.

This is a must see movie.
